A Study of Nutritional Status and Incidences of Diarrhea by Enteral Formula and Infusion Method in ICU Tube-fed Patients

Abstract
Nutritional assessment was conducted in 60 ICU tube-fed patients. The indicatiors of nutritonal status included serum albumin, total lymphocyte count, hemoglobin, Acceptable subjects percentages of Se Alb, TLC and Hgb were only 31.7%, 21.1% and
35%,
respectively.
Otherwise, the incidences of diarrhea in HB group (Hyperosmlor bolus feeding group), IB group (Isoosmolar bolus feeding group) and IC group (Isoosmolar continuous feedinggroup) were 133, 59, and 24 during 10 days from the lst tube-fed day,
respectively
(P<0.001). There was also significant difference between IB group and IC group during 5 days from the lst tube-fed day(P<0.05).
These findings indicate that most ICU patients have risk of malnutrtion and use of the continuous tube feeding and isoosmolar enteral formula can significant reduce the incidences of diarrreha caused by tube feeding
